South Alabama adds 2025 commitment from Florida high school linebacker
South Alabama on Thursday picked up a 2025 football verbal commitment from Tristan Jackson, a linebacker at Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Jackson (6-feet, 200 pounds) totaled 109 tackles, 24 tackles for loss, four sacks, five pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles as a junior in 2023 for a Choctawhatchee team that finished 10-3. He also has scholarship offers from Liberty, Louisiana and Georgia Southern, among other schools.
USA Health Expands Sports Medicine With Providence Location
USA Health has expanded its sports medicine services with the opening of a new location on the campus of USA Health Providence Hospital in West Mobile. Orthopedic and sports medicine specialists are now seeing patients on the second floor of Building A101 at 6701 Airport Boulevard. This will be the primary location for USA Health Sports Medicine, with a secondary office at the Strada Patient Care Center at 1601 Center Street, Suite 3A in Midtown Mobile. The new location will provide a full range of care for patients ages 8 and older who are suffering from sports-related injuries and conditions. Patients can be seen by four fellowship-trained sports medicine providers at the new office: orthopedic surgeon Dr. Brad Clay, sports medicine/family medicine physicians Dr. Peter Rippey and Dr. Bishop Carmichael and sports medicine physician/pediatrician Dr. Sarah McMullin. USA Health is the official sports medicine provider for University of South Alabama (USA) athletics and 11 high schools in the Mobile County Public School System.
Registration Open For SWMCC Sporting Clays Shoot
The Southwest Mobile County Chamber of Commerce (SWMCC) is hosting its second-annual Sporting Clays Shoot on September 13 at Taylor Creek Sporting Clays in Theodore. Registration begins at 8 a.m., and the game will start at 10 a.m. The chamber will provide lunch and awards following the shoot. Trophies will be given to first- and second-place teams and best individual shooter. All proceeds go to the SWMCC Foundation to support its TALL Program for 2024-2025 student scholarships. There is a limit of 20 teams, and signup is first come, first served. Sponsorships begin at $75, and participation is $100.
