Linden, NJ - Linden Public Schools Summer Middle School STEM Camp concluded its thrilling two-week journey today with an exciting field trip to Merck Headquarters! Superintendent Atiya Cunningham-Perkins visited the camp to meet our enthusiastic 5th to 8th graders and will join them at Merck. This collaborative experience fostered a deep appreciation for science and empowered our students to pursue their passions with confidence and enthusiasm! The 23 students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grades were guided by tech instructors Cynthia LaFace, a 7th-grade science teacher at McManus Middle School, and Kim Terwilliger, a 6th-grade science teacher at Soehl Middle School. ALJ High School Teacher Fredy Reyes Attends Holocaust Conference in Berlin
Clark, NJ — Noted German playwright Frank Wedekind once said, “Monuments are for the living, not the dead.” Arthur L. Johnson (ALJ) High School social studies teacher Fredy Reyes spent a week in and around Berlin visiting many such monuments. Reyes attended a week-long program studying the Holocaust and the Cold War. The trip was run by Centropa, a nonprofit organization that strives to educate teachers from Israel, Europe, and the United States about European history, especially the Holocaust. City Launches Expanded Student OMNY Cards
It will now be easier and more affordable for public school students to get to and from school and after-school activities via public transportation. Starting the 2024-2025 school year, students will receive Student OMNY cards valid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, with up to four free rides a day, according to a news release.

Westfield Coach Named 2024 NJ Boys’ High School Track & Field Coach of the Year
WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield High School track and field/cross country coach Christopher Tafelski has received national recognition for a second time for his leadership and performance during the 2023-2024 school year, Westfield Public Schools announced Wednesday. Tafelski has been selected by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as the 2024 Boys’ High School Track and Field Coach of the Year for the state of New Jersey. Adele DeLeeuw Scholarships Awarded to North Plainfield and Watchung Hills Students
SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ --Three students from North Plainfield and Watchung Hills high schools received new and continuing scholarships from the Adele DeLeeuw Scholarship Fund. The scholarships are financed by a bequest from Adele DeLeeuw, longtime Plainfield resident, author of 75 books, journalist and arts activist. The Rotary Club of the Plainfields (Plainfield, North Plainfield and South Plainfield) administers the Adele DeLeeuw Scholarship Fund and is one of four Rotary clubs (including the Warren-Watchung Rotary) that provide scholarships from the Fund to students in their communities who pursue a course of study in poetry, art, journalism, writing or engineering.
