Two Killed in ATV Crash on N Austin Merritt Road in Groveland

Groveland, Lake County - Florida Highway Patrol troopers are currently on the scene of a tragic accident that claimed the lives of two individuals this afternoon. The fatal crash occurred around 3:15 P.M. on N Austin Merritt Road, just north of Ward Drive in Groveland.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a Polaris RZR ATV was traveling northbound on N Austin Merritt Road when, for reasons yet to be determined, the rider lost control. The ATV veered off the roadway to the left, struck a tree, and overturned. The impact ejected both occupants, an adult male and an adult female, from the vehicle.

Emergency responders pronounced both individuals deceased at the scene. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

In response to the accident, authorities have implemented a roadblock on N Austin Merritt Road in both directions, causing significant traffic disruptions. Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.

The Florida Highway Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Further details will be released as they become available.
