GRAND ISLAND — Fire at a Duke Power substation on State Road 44, believed to have been caused by a lightning strike, knocked out power to thousands of homes Sunday night. Lake County firefighters were called to the scene near Apiary Road at 6:44 p.m. Units arrived 10 minutes later and began putting out the blaze. Firefighters were still putting water on the structure at 10 p.m. By 11 p.m., the fire had been extinguished, according to a statement on Duke Energy's website.

A Leesburg woman was arrested for battery when she allegedly slapped her husband for getting too close during a verbal argument. An officer responded to a battery at an undisclosed Lake County residence around 9:50 a.m. July 14, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department. He met with the male victim in the front yard of the residence upon his arrival.
