Jack Handley Jr. of Medford didn’t allow losing the NASCAR Modified feature lead during a 45th lap restart to rain on his parade Saturday night at Riverhead Raceway. Instead, with some perseverance combined with some good racing fortune, Handley reclaimed the lead 16-laps later during another restart to earn “The Flying Dutchman Tribute” to Fred Harbach 74. Walsh Celebrates POB Girls’ Flag Football State Championship Win
Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh joined the Plainview-Old Bethpage Board of Education and Central Administration to celebrate the Girls Flag Football Team, who recently won the New York State Championship. The last time a Plainview-Old Bethpage Team took a State Championship was in 1983 for Boys’ Soccer, making this win an even more tremendous accomplishment for the district. Councilwoman Walsh commended the team’s amazing athleticism and camaraderie on the field, and also thanked coaches Mr. Abramowitz, Mr. Tomasulo, Ms. Ho, and Mr. Gurney for all they did to make this win possible. New York State Senator Steve Rhoads, Assemblyman Jake Blumencranz, and Nassau County Legislator Arnie Drucker were also in attendance.
“Swing for Hope” golf outing raises $180K for The Safe Center
The Safe Center, a Bethpage-based victim service organization, raised $180,000 at its annual “Swing For Hope” golf outing. The event, held on Monday, June 10 at the Brookville Country Club in Glen Head, was chaired by Adam Dejak, TSCLI board member and national director of residential lending at Popular Bank. The fundraising outing was held to support victims and survivors of domestic violence, human trafficking and interpersonal abuse on Long Island.
