ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) – The Isle of Palms Police Department (IOPPD) is urging residents and tourists to celebrate safely this 4th of July.

    Safety on the road!

Due to high traffic and large crowds of people visiting the island, they ask drivers to be patient and allow extra time to come and go from the island. They have added additional manpower for crowd and traffic control over the weekend. Please take notice of the traffic officers and remember that state law requires drivers to move over or reduce speed for emergency services.

    Golf Cart Parade

The traditional Isle of Palms Golf Cart Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday. Roads will close at 9:45 a.m., so participating golf carts need to be in line by 9:30 a.m.

A few additional rules are being enforced in this year’s parade due to the event’s growth. Click here to read more.

    Fireworks

IOPPD reminds the public that fireworks are prohibited, so they encourage people to come out and watch a professional fireworks display on the beach sponsored by the city.

The Isle of Palms fireworks show is set to take place in the Front Beach area. It will begin at 9 p.m. and last around thirty minutes.

The set-up and preparation of the display will close the area of the beach between 21st Avenue to 3rd Sea Cabins at 6:30 p.m. Be prepared to take your family and belongings from this area if you are sitting there at that time.

There will be an emergency lane on the beach running from 9th Avenue to 21st Avenue, so please do not block or disturb this area.
