ITHACA, N.Y. (WETM) – Cornell wrestling is primed for another big season in college wrestling.

The Big Red finished #2 in the country in the final NCAA D-I rankings only behind Penn State after a strong year. Cornell’s run at the NCAA Tournament tied a school best mark going back to 2010 and 2011 when The Big Red also had a second place finish.

Last week, at the conclusion of Cornell’s technique and pee wee camps, head coach Mike Grey gave us a sneak peak at the upcoming season.

Grey, who will enter his fourth season as the head coach of The Big Red, shares with us some of the schedule. The complete slate will be released in the coming weeks, but what we do know is Cornell will open up their dual meet season on Saturday, November 23 at 12:30 PM versus Buffalo.

The match vs. the Bulls will have special significance for many reasons including being held at Barton Hall with the Finger Lakes Duals being held that day. Plus, former Cornell assistant coach Donnie Vinson will return as the new head coach for Buffalo. Vinson served as the associate head coach before getting the Buffalo position for the past three seasons.

Also of note, Grey tells us that The Big Red will be hosting strong ACC Wrestling foe NC State on December 22. A time will be revealed for that dual meet in the weeks ahead. And, regional rival Lehigh will also make a trip back to Ithaca this season.

More on Cornell’s season schedule when it’s released. Hear from Grey on the upcoming schedule and season.
