Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34-year-old Joshua Benjamin on an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant. Benjamin told jail officials he was homeless. Salem Police arrested 27-year-old Matthew Harris of Iuka Road in Iuka for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Harris was taken into custody after the Salem canine alerted on a bag attached to his bicycle during a traffic stop at College and Rogers around 11 Tuesday night. The initial traffic stop was for not having a light on his bike.
Salem 11u Opens District With Loss To Robinson, Back Tonight In Elimination Play
The Salem 11u All Stars fell in their District Tournament opener at Olney, losing to Robinson 7-0 on Tuesday night. Nolan Krutsinger did his job on the mound as he worked 4.2 and gave up 5 runs, none of them earned, while striking out 11 and not walking anyone. He kept the Maroons off balance all night.

The Unity won their Box Bracket with a 14-3 win over the Strykers National and then beating Nebraska Gold 8-7 to advance into the TV Championship bracket today. The Unity at 2pm this afternoon against the BSC Bengals with the winner back at it at 4pm in the single elimination bracket.

Illinois Ends Fiscal Year With Nearly $5B Cash on Hand
Illinois entered a new fiscal year Monday with a bit of a financial cushion as the prior year’s revenues exceeded final projections by about $123 million. The state ended fiscal year 2024 with about $4.7 billion cash on hand, or about 9% of the allocated spending for fiscal year 2025, which began July 1. That included a record high $2.1 billion in the state’s budget stabilization, or “rainy day” fund, which has seen its balance grow steadily over the past five years.
