Closing of Rural Hospitals Leaves Towns With Unhealthy Real Estate
This story was originally published by KFF Health News. In March 2021, this town of about 2,000 residents in the hills of east Tennessee lost its hospital, a 54-bed acute care facility. Campbell County, where Jellico, Tennessee, is located, ranks 90th of Tennessee’s 95 counties in health outcomes and has a poverty rate almost double the national average, so losing its health care cornerstone sent ripple effects through the region.
They're the Fair-est of the Anderson County Fair
The Anderson County Fairest of the Fair and Tiny Miss pageants were held July 15-16 at the Anderson County Fair in Clinton. The Fairest of the Fair is Autumn Brooke Hill, 20, a pre-vet student at the University of Tennessee. She is the daughter of James and Kim Hill of Clinton. She will represent the county at the Tennessee Association of Fairs Fairest of the Fairs Pageant in Murfreesboro in January, according to a news release.

Candidate forum and dessert auction to benefit Child Advocacy Center of Anderson County
The Child Advocacy Center of Anderson County will host a forum July 25 for political candidates to talk about what they plan to do for children if elected to office. "Hand in Hand for Children" will be at 6:30 p.m. at Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge, 701 Briarcliff Ave. It will be hosted by Don Hudson of WATE-TV Channel 6. Doors open at 6 p.m.
