JACKSBORO, Tenn. (WATE) — The Jacksboro Police Department is again facing a staffing shortage following several officers resigning.

Jacksboro Mayor Shayne Green shared that Jacksboro Police Department Chief Daniel Smith turned in his resignation about a week and a half ago. The mayor said Smith was leaving for a better opportunity. Another officer also tendered her resignation and while Green did not have the reason immediately available, she was leaving on good terms.

Another officer, Joseph Weaver , resigned following an incident that left him facing theft and vandalism charges according to an affidavit obtained by WATE .

Green said the Jacksboro Police Department is “a very small department” and will be short-staffed for around two weeks. Campbell County Sheriff, Lafollette, and Caryville Police Departments will be helping with calls while the department works to hire. To be at full staff, the department needs six officers.
