Photo/Brian Smith Jacksboro aldermen approved a grant to help with license plate readers. City Manager Mike Smith told the council at the Monday, Feb. 26 meeting these would be applied for through the Operation Lone Star Grant. New software would be for the cameras already in the of_cers’ cars and would give them the same technology as the proposed stationary license plate readers around the county. It will allow both sets of license plate readers to interact. Jacksboro Police Chief Bryan Corb said the grant is for $29,000 and is due Thursday, March 14. Corb said the department should know something by the end of June. In other news, the city of_cially canceled its May 5 election. No one _led for places on the ballot except for incumbents Libby Gonzales, Greg Robinson and Stewart Chalmers. Aldermen also approved granting an easement and right-of-way request by Oncor for a 50-acre tract for overhead and/or underground electric supply and communication facilities. Smith said the area is just north of Lost Creek Reservoir. Friends of Fort Richardson State Park will be paying up to $50,000 for the facility to provide electricity to a restroom in the area. In his report, Smith gave an update on the U.S. Department of Agriculture loan/grant for the new water plant. Smith said the application has gone through at plant. Smith said the application has gone through at the state level and is now on the federal level. Smith admitted not knowing how much will be grant and how much will be loan. “Now that it’s on the federal level, we may be looking at less grant and more loan,” Smith said. “On the State level we were looking at potentially more grant and less loan.” The council’s next meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 11, at City Hall.
