Contributed/Brian Smith Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette will recognize one athlete from each Jack County school as the Herald’s Athletes of the Week. Athletes will be chosen with input from the respective districts’ coaches based on factors that go beyond achievement on the field, court or track. Aside from statistics, athletes who coaches deem to have stepped up in other ways including leadership or general team spirit will be considered as well. Features will include stats from the previous week of games and comments from coaches. The Herald’s Athletes of the Week represented a number of sports for last week. This week’s Athletes of the Week are Kylie Tullous, of Jacksboro, Case Lambert, of Perrin, and Ben Bennett, of Bryson. Kylie Tullous, JHS Jacksboro’s Athlete of the Week is senior Kylie Tullous for her work last Thursday, Feb. 29. Tullous then followed that with wins in both the pole vault with a 9’ leap and long jump with a 17’4” effort at the Rhonda’s Relays in Bowie later in the day in what were less than favorable weather conditions. “Definitely a tremendous day for her,” Tullous’ father and softball assistant coach Heath Tullous said. For the tournament, where the Tigerettes went 6-0, she was 10-13 at the plate with nine runs scored, as well asfour stolen bases. Case Lambert, PWHS Perrin’s Athlete of the Week is sophomore Case Lambert for his performance during the Pirates season ending game. Perrin ended its basketball season Tuesday, Feb. 27 with a 60-54 loss against the Dodd City Hornets in the regional quarterfinal round. Lambert had an impressive performance with 16 points. “Case and his teammates left everything they had on the floor,” Perrin Pirates basketball coach Todd McCormick said. Ben Bennett, BHS Bryson’s Athlete of the Week is sophomore Ben Bennett, who had two hits in a 4-3 victory Friday, March 1 over Bellevue. Bennett ignited a two-out rally with a third inning single and eventually came home on an error. Bennett had an infield single in the fifth as well.
