Casino Night set for May 4

Casino Night set for May 4 Brian Smith Wed, 03/13/2024 - 8:30 am Jacksboro Athletic Boosters and the Jacksboro Quarterback Club are coming together once again to raise funds for Tiger and Tigerette athletes. The groups are working on the first Casino Night event, set for 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, May 4 at the Market at Tandy Hall. Booster Club President Leann Johnson said the hall has a separate space for events that the owners are allowing the clubs to use. The event came about after their first event Dueling Pianos was such a success homecoming weekend. “I was approached by several people saying the community needs more stuff like this — for people to come together and have a good time in support of these organizations,” Johnson explained. Johnson said she had done a casino night with other organizations such as the Graham Booster Club and Graham Chamber of Commerce with great success, so she approached QB Club President Kelly Mower and the idea was born. “It’s a great time of year to do it as was the fall with homecoming going on,” Johnson said. “We’ve gotten lots of sponsors over the last week and we’re still looking for them.” Johnson said the Casino Night, which will have all the standard casino games like blackjack, poker, and craps, will be more low-key than Dueling Pianos was. The event will have professional dealers which will help people who have never played casino-style games before. At the end of the night, chips can be turned in for tickets which can be used to “bid” on prizes. At the end, a ticket will be drawn to win that prize, Johnson said. Prizes and sponsorships are still needed and can be made by contacting Johnson at 940-445-7380. Tickets will be $50 each and will go on sale in mid-tolate April, Johnson said. Proceeds from the event will go toward paying for the upcoming athletic banquet Monday, May 13. The booster club, which picks up the athlete cost at the banquet, also picked up the tab for team dinners for the football team during its run late last year. “We just wanted to give the parents a chance to relax during a very busy time,” Johnson said.
