File photos Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette will recognize one athlete from each Jack County school as the Herald’s Athletes of the Week. The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Brailyn Tullous, of Jacksboro, Cameron Tune, of Perrin, and Chance Hand, of Bryson. Chance Hand, BHS The Cowboys senior qualified for the area meet by placing in the top four in four events Monday, April 1 during the District 21-A Meet in Bryson. Hand had the only event win for the ‘Pokes, who finished 2nd overall, winning the triple jump. He was also a member of the 400-meter relay team which finished 2nd, 3rd in the 100-meter dash and a member of the 800-meter relay team that finished 4th. Cameron Tune, PWHS Tune won both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles to help the Pirates, who finished 4th overall at the same meet. Tune said he had been doing hurdles since junior high and admitted no one told him to do them – he was attracted by them and wanted to do it. He said he had no problems competing in track after a leg injury kept him out of most of football season but admitted after the 300 hurdles at the district meet he was in a bit of pain. Despite that, he says he enjoys the 300 more, saying he “finds it easier.” Brailyn Tullous, JHS The junior track athlete qualified for area meet, set for Thursday, April 11, in a number of events. She won the pole vault and finished 2nd in both hurdle events. She was also part of the 1,600-meter relay team that finished 3rd.
