The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Macee Cagle, of Bryson, Rylee Mathis, of Jacksboro, and Logan Turner, of Perrin. Rylee Mathis, JHS The Tigerette senior shortstop had a good series in the area round match-up against Clyde last week. In the series opener, Rylee Mathis was 1-4 but got the Tigerettes on the board with the game’s first run in what would be an 8-5 loss. She added an RBI single in Game 3 as the Tigerettes posted a 7-4 win to move on to the regional quarterfinals. “Rylee has been a good bat and given us solid senior leadership all season long and throughout her career with us,” softball coach John Bennett said. “She has a bright future ahead.” Macee Cagle, BHS Macee Cagle signed a National Letter of Intent to compete in rodeo for Hill College next year. Cagle said she competed with the North Texas Rodeo Association with a few other Bryson students. Her dad also rodeoed for Hill College under the same coach, Paul Brown, who recruited her. “He competed in the Collegiate National Finals when he was in college and has been a big influence on me,” Cagle said. Logan Turner, PWHS The senior designated hitter had a solid series against Vernon Northside in the bi-district round. Logan Turner had three hits in the twogame series sweep over the Indians. He also scored four runs and batted in two runs as the Pirates posted 5-0 and 16-3 victories to move on to area. “He’s definitely doing his job as our designated hitter,” coach Scott McPherson said.
