Richerson, Gavit named Athletes of the Week Brian Smith Tue, 05/14/2024 - 3:32 pm     Each week, the Jacksboro Herald-Gazette recognizes one athlete from each Jack County school as the Herald’s Athletes of the Week. This will be the final week for this season. AOTW will resume at the beginning of the 2024-2024 school year. The Herald’s Athletes of the Week are Ryan Richerson, of Perrin and Wyatt Gavit of Jacksboro. Bryson has completed all of its athletic contests for the year. Ryan Richerson, PWHS Richerson, a junior, had a good series as the Pirates fell to Dodd City in the Class A regional quarterfinals Wednesday, May 8, in Gainesville. Richerson had a sixth-inning double which scored the final run of the season for Perrin. Richerson said the pitch was a combination between a slider and a curve that he took to left field. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Joe Welch’s sacrifice fly. “We had a good year overall,” Richerson said. “We went face in both basketball and here in baseball. Wyatt Gavit, JHS The sophomore third baseman had a good day at the plate as the Tigers swept Blanco in a best-of-three series. He opened his twohit game with a first inning single and had a sixth-inning single which led to him scoring a run. Gavit has been one of the top hitters for the squad this season. He owes part of that to his dad. “I talked to my dad and he has helped me with my swing,” Gavit said. “I’ve been trying to stay with the ball more, following the ball in which has helped me hit more line drives.”
