Photo/Brian Smith With the largest reported class in school history, 81 seniors walked across the stage to receive their diplomas during Jacksboro High School’s Class of 2024 graduation Friday, May 24 at Tiger Stadium. JHS Principal Starla Sanders said it has been an amazing school year for the Class of 2024 with accolades coming from both athletics and academics with state and national titles coming for a number of groups. In a rare feat, brothers Saubdiel Avalos and Uzziel Avalos were named salutatorian and valedictorian of their class, respectively. Both received full ride scholarships to Duke University in the fall. Saubdiel thanked his teachers, coaches and parents for their support over the years. He told his classmates that faith is the best thing you can have, admitting it has gotten him through many struggles in his young life. Saubdiel said as his classmates move on with their lives, remember there will be easy days and hard days. “The hard days will challenge you to the core,” Saubdiel said. “They will also determine what kind of person you will be and what successes you will have in life.” He said that being curious about life as a whole is more important than being a cool person. “Don’t get stuck in one place in your life,” Saubdiel said in closing. Uzziel said to recognize the goals that got you where you are today and congratulate yourself for reaching them. Life is a long journey, however, and the positive support you give yourself will determine what kind of life you will have. “Never stop reassuring yourself about your life,” Uzziel said. He extended gratitude to a number of his teachers that got him where he is today. He encouraged all teachers to “please continue to help our younger students.”
