The plane, a single-engine Cessna 152, registered to Wings over Texas Holdings LLC, of Denton, landed near the 1400 block of Salt Creek Road around 4:20 p.m. According to a preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and witnesses on scene, the plane experienced engine issues and the pilot, Jaime Romero- Escobar, of Bridgeport, landed the plane in a coastal hayfield nearby. Romero-Escobar said he was on a solo training flight from Denton to Graham and had just left the Graham airport when the plane began having difficulty climbing after about 2,500 feet. He said he tried to restart the plane but to no avail. “The nearest airport was Jacksboro Municipal (Airport), eight miles away,” Romero-Escobar said. “The shortest route to the airport was through a windmill farm, so that wasn’t an option. I looked at my map and decided to put the plane down in the field where I landed.” Romero-Escobar, who is training to one day become a commercial pilot, said the landing was one of his best. “It took a life or death situation to bring out the best in me,” Romero-Escobar said. The FAA is investigating the incident.
