Local authorities were recently called for a possible arson incident in the Jefferson area. Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a request from Arcade Fire on Swann Ct. on July 14 after someone made comments that a fire had been started intentionally at a residence.

Update published Tuesday, July 16 at 11:30 a.m. A Jefferson man has been arrested in connection with the death of an Athens man who was recently found dead near Nicholson. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Monday that William Austin, age 31, was arrested by agents on Friday and booked into the Jackson County Jail. Records there show he faces charges of murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery and tampering with evidence along with a hold from Wilkes County.

The Braselton Police Department said officers were dispatched at 5:15 p.m. to The LaQuinta Inn & Suites at 200 Kaival Lane in Braselton, Jackson County, Georgia. When officers arrived, they said they found a man in a hotel room with a gunshot wound to his head.
