Trustees fire NICC president again after appeal ruling
The Northeast Iowa Community College Board of Trustees has voted for a second time to fire president Herbert Riedel after an appeal ruling. And independent administrative law judge determined the Board of Trustees was justified in terminating Reidel’s contract, an action the board took in March. Riedel appealed the decision, and after Thursday’s hearing, the Trustees voted unanimously to terminate his contract. Reidel was placed on administrative leave in October of last year. In a letter to the editor of the Driftless Journal, Riedel claimed he was put on leave as retaliation for complaints he made about Trustee Chair Jim Anderson.

Mighty Howard County Fair Features Sawyer Brown in Concert
The 130th edition of the Mighty Howard County Fair continues through Sunday in Cresco. Fair Board President Tom Barnes says Friday (06.28) night’s grandstand entertainment, “Part in the Pit,” features the country music concert with Sawyer Brown, experiencing a resurgence of late with the documentary, “Get Me to the Stage on Time,” released last year.
Driftless Water Defenders Go on the Offensive in Iowa
Now, Edgerton is organizing in Decorah again, but this time to preserve water quality in the Driftless area of the Midwest. On June 15, Edgerton helped greet the crowd of 100 people who attended the kickoff event for the Driftless Water Defenders, a new 501(c)3 nonprofit that plans to organize and educate citizens, and to litigate around water quality issues in Iowa’s Driftless area.
