Clarion Ledger reporting shows murders in Jackson have started to increase across the city into some northern portions of Jackson, which are not widely noted as high crime areas when compared to South and West Jackson.

During the first three months of the year – January, February, and March –, the city of Jackson saw 29 homicides with roughly 7% of those murders occurring in Wards 1 and 2. This percentage is based on murders committed in areas north of Northside Drive.
