At the Southwestern Athletic Conference Media Day on Tuesday. Jackson State football was picked to finish third in the SWAC East Division behind Alabama State and defending Black national champions Florida A&M in 2024.

The voting was based on a poll of SWAC head coaches and sports information directors.

Alcorn State was picked to win the West Division.

In T.C. Taylor’s first season, JSU went 7-4 and led the SWAC in total offense with 389.4 yards a game. This season, he has added the offensive coordinator role to his title.

“I miss it,” Taylor said. “I’m excited about that. I have done it for a long time.”

Taylor said the last game of the 2023 season, a 28-24 loss against Alcorn State, left the Tigers with a bad taste in their mouths.

In Taylor's first year as a head coach last season, five of the 12 teams in the SWAC had winning records. He feels like JSU has something to build on with a 7-4 record.

As Jackson State begins football practice on July 29, Taylor said he likes the work his team has put in this summer. And he is excited for the season to begin.
