    Former Jackson State women's basketball player Daja Woodard signs with pro team in Puerto Rico

    Former Jackson State women's basketball player Daja Woodard has signed to play for Patriotas de Lares in the Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino, a professional women's league in Puerto Rico.

    Woodard is in her second year playing professionally. Last year, she played for Gran Canaria in Liga Femenina Endesa, a women's pro league in Spain.

    Woodard played at Jackson State in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. She played in 60 games and averaged 7. 2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game.

    Woodard was coached at Jackson State by Tomekia Reed after transferring from Minnesota. Woodard, who is 6-foot-3, dunked at Reed's basketball camp on June 7, 2022, a play that was caught on videotape by Light on College Sports.

    One of the highlights for Woodard at Jackson State was when she made seven field goals and scored a career-high 16 points against Ole Miss on Nov. 23, 2021. She helped JSU win consecutive regular-season Southwestern Athletic Conference titles. She was named Impact Player of the Week in the SWAC on Nov. 11, 2022, when she helped JSU women's basketball team defeat Power Five school Texas Tech and Louisiana. In the two games, she scored 20 points, had 17 rebounds with three steals, two block shots and one assist.
