    17 Mississippi airports receive funds through airport grants

    JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Seventeen Mississippi airports received $5,392,774 million in total to upgrade their hangars, perimeter fencing and gates, fuel facilities, and runway lighting.

    A few airports received funding to update their master plans.

    “It’s not a bad day when I can say Mississippi has received $13 million in a week to upgrade airports. Every dollar will better position our state,” said U.S. Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).

    17 Mississippi airports receive funds for upgrades

    The grants will support:

    • Columbus-Lowndes County Airport
      • Received $448,000 to construct a new 9,600 square foot sponsor-owned hangar for aircraft storage.
    • Stennis International Airport
      • Received $426,959 to acquire 1.9 acres of land for future eligible aeronautical development.
    • Panola County Airport
      • Received $290,505 to reconstruct the existing runway lighting system.
    • Cleveland Municipal Airport
      • Received $294,000 toconstruct a new 12,000 square foot sponsor-owned hangar for aircraft storage/maintenance.
    • James H Easom Field Airport
      • Received $107,042 to construct a new 8,156 square foot nested T-hangar for aircraft storage, maintenance, or service.
    • Fletcher Field Airport
      • Received $357,600 torehabilitate 5,404 feet of the existing runway to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris.
    • Macon Municipal Airport
      • Received $40,245 to construct a new 5,700 square foot T-hangar building for aircraft storage, maintenance, or service.
    • Philadelphia Municipal Airport
      • Received $41,790 to update the existing airport master plan study.
    • Monroe County Airport
      • Received $51,875 toinstall 1,100 feet of perimeter fencing.
    • Greenville Mid-Delta Airport
      • Received $479,039 to update the existing airport master plan study.
    • McComb/Pike County/John E Lewis Field
      • Received $104,400 to rehabilitate the existing runway pavement markings.
    • Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport
      • Received $179,730 to improve runway safety areas.
    • Grenada Municipal Airport
      • Received $395,370 to construct a new fuel facility by adding a single self-service pump and concrete apron.
    • Golden Triangle Regional Airport
      • Received $1,621,119 to reseal 11,718 square yards of the existing north general aviation apron pavement, construct new airfield drainage ditches to mitigate erosion, install 16 gates to enhance safety, and reseal existing runway and taxiway pavement.
    • Magee Municipal Airport
      • Received $80,100 to install 450 feet of perimeter fencing and gate.
    • Louisville/Winston County Airport
      • Received $145,000 to expand the existing apron by adding 6,900 square yards.
    • New Albany/Union County Airport
      • Received $330,000 to install 5,165 feet of perimeter fencing and gates.

    The Federal Aviation Administration will award the grants.
