New Hampshire’s Conway Scenic Railroad is Celebrating 50 Years of Scenic Train Rides
I remember my first time riding on the Conway Scenic Railroad. I loved watching trains, and the house I grew up in in South Paris, Maine, had tracks I could see right out a window at the end of the street. I'd often walk down to the crossing to watch them switch cars out of the Paris Manufacturing Company, and one time, the engineer offered me a ride. It was a quick back and forth, but a moment I'll never forget.
‘Sea-Sick’ of New England Whale Watches? How About a Moose Tour?
You think you know New Hampshire? You know nothing. When I say you, I mean me. Here I am, thinking that I'm a New Hampshire native, but I did not know that there was such a thing as a "moose tour" until today. Not only is it a thing, but there are lots of places all around the state and region that offer them.
‘Reunion: Coda’ Writer’s Weekend Work and Novel Update
Late Morning, Saturday, July 27, 2024, Madison, New Hampshire. Hi, everyone. It’s a sunny and cool (but gradually warming up) summer day here in what for now is my corner of New England. I’ve been up since just past six in the morning and I’ve already had a light breakfast, so now I’m in the blog-writing phase of my day, and soon I’ll be deciding whether today will be either a workday or a relaxing Saturday.
All Quiet on the Writing Front…Unfortunately
Evening, Sunday, July 28, 2024, Madison, New Hampshire. Chilling as the evening of a late July Sunday comes to an end, I’m relaxing with some tunes from Mozart. The writing room’s cozy, and there’s still enough light coming in from the sunset so I haven’t bothered to turn the main light on. Feeling a bit drained—my eyes need a break from screens and I’m somehow hungry even though I had a late lunch.
Musings and Thoughts for Friday, July 26, 2024: A Writer’s Worries…and Hopes
Late Morning, Friday, July 26, 2024, Madison, New Hampshire. Hey everyone, it’s a sticky Friday morning over here in eastern New Hampshire. This week has worn me out and I’ve been struggling to finish any work. Even though I had a night this week where I couldn’t get any sleep, I’m set on shaking off the tiredness and getting some writing done. My head is spinning with so many feelings – kinda feels like being back in Hurricane Andrew back in ’92.
