JACKSON - A collision between a flatbed tow truck and a motorcycle claimed the life of a man from the New Egypt section of Plumsted and left his wife, a passenger on the motorcycle, severely injured.

The collision occurred Thursday about 3:15 p.m. on Hawkin Road. The truck, a 1997 Ford F-350, was making a left turn into a driveway when it hit a 1998 Harley-Davidson that was traveling north on Hawkin Road, police said.

The Harley-Davidson driver, Erin Doyle, 53, died at the scene. His 47-year-old wife, whose name was not released, suffered a serious leg injury, police said. She was taken to a local trauma center for treatment.

The tow truck driver was uninjured, police said.

The Jackson Township Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.

Police are urging any witnesses to call Officer Tristan Bennett at 732-928-1111, Ext. 2406.
