Miami OL commit TK Muex growing close with current Hurricanes, says UM is ready to “shock the world” this season

Jacksonville (Fla.) Duncan U. Fletcher three-star interior offensive lineman Takaylen “TK” Muex isn’t going anywhere after committing to Miami in late May and taking his official visit in June. So he’s started focusing on building relationships with current Hurricanes as he prepares for his senior season.

The 6-foot-5, 315-pound interior lineman, who plans to visit Miami for the Hurricanes’ end-of-summer recruiting cookout this weekend, has built good relationships with current Hurricanes Anez Cooper and Deryc Plazz . Muex connected with both players during his official visit last month and has been compared to Cooper many times by Miami’s staff, and he’s enjoyed getting to know an offensive lineman whose career path he could follow. Plazz hosted the No. 78 interior offensive lineman during his official visit.

“I feel good about the commitment,” Muex said. “I feel like I made a great decision. I don’t feel like anything I did was bad or affected me poorly. …Honestly, I connected with a few players. I see what coach ( Alex Mirabal ) by me thinking I could be another (Cooper). We relate. Have similar personalities. I can see what coach is talking about.”

Muex said his relationship with Mirabal and head coach Mario Cristobal has only continued to grow since he committed and immediately shut down his recruitment. Muex committed to Miami shortly after receiving an offer from the Hurricanes in May and believes his relationship will continue to grow this season.

He said Miami-positive opinions from newly-committed four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine and recently-committed Oklahoma three-star defensive tackle Floyd Boucard , both of whom visited Miami the same weekend as Muex, helped his perception of Miami. Boucard was heavily considering Miami before committing to the Sooners.

“We’ve been communicating a lot since Day One,” Muex said. “It feels like I’ve known (the staff) so long, but I’ve just met them so it’s just crazy. We usually talk about just football things, like what I’m doing, what I can do to get better and stuff like that.”

Muex is currently preparing for his senior season and wants to technically improve this fall. He said he wants to work on his gallop technique and double teams so he can quickly adapt to the Hurricanes’ style of play when he arrives on campus next year, although he added he wants to get better at “probably everything” and joked he isn’t perfect.

He also thinks Miami is ready to “shock the world” this season.

“I’ve been seeing all the new pieces they’ve been adding and the new pieces on offense and defense, and I feel like we’re going to be a sleeper team,” Muex said.

    CaneSport’s Take

I’ll be particularly interested to watch Muex’s senior season and see if the three-star prospect takes the developmental steps the staff is betting on. There’s no denying his ceiling.
