Doug Pederson is making a decision that the Jacksonville Jaguars may end up regretting

I don't need to sit here and tell you, the fans, that the Jacksonville Jaguars had a big injury problem last year. You know that Trevor Lawrence was banged up with like five different injuries, and you know the offensive line, defensive line, and secondary all faced injuries along with some important wide receivers.

It was a rough season, and one that I'm sure every member of the Jaguars, and every fan, is glad it's over. Now it's on to 2024, where you just have to hope that the same unfortunate luck doesn't happen again. If this team can stay healthy, they are easily one that can contend in the postseason.

But, that's a big if, and it doesn't help that the starters are likely going to be playing in a meaningful game that does not affect their record whatsoever.

"You guys know, I usually play the starters, or the penciled-in starters, a series or two in this first game, and then get them out. Then really, from there, we want to look at everybody. So, you have three quarters, maybe three and a half, to really get a good look at a lot of the young players and see what you have there," Pederson said. "Sometimes it doesn't work out that way. Maybe the guys play more special teams than they do offense-defense. But at the same time, you still want to give everybody a chance to get in this game and play."

Sure, most teams play their starters in the preseason at least a little bit. However, a whole quarter is kind of pushing it. The Kansas City Chiefs -- the standard of football right now, usually let Patrick Mahomes do a few plays and then he's out. Heck, one year they didn't let him do anything. That's because you take a risk in the preseason playing the starters.

We have seen it happen way too often, where guys play preseason games and get hurt. That could be the case for the Jaguars, or it could not -- either way the Jaguars just made a decision that they could very well end up regretting. But, then again, you have to see how it's coming along somehow after weeks of training camp.
