The woman who was found dead inside of a car near the Jacksonville Public Library has been identified, and the man who was initially detained has now been charged in the homicide.

Authorities announced Tuesday Joshua E. Jones, 43, has been charged in the death of 33-year-old Kathryn D. Patton Scott of south Jacksonville.

The Jacksonville Police Department was called for a disturbance in the 200 block of West Beecher just before 4 a.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they found Jones hiding in some bushes by a parked van and he was detained. While searching the area, officers found Scott inside of the van.

Scott was pronounced dead at the scene by Morgan County Coroner Marcy Patterson. A preliminary autopsy report shows she died of multiple stab wounds.
