JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Jacksonville’s new Recreation and Sports Complex is making some progress.

It’s going to be a 400 acre patch of land that the city recently got at the end of Western Boulevard. Transportation Services Director Anthony Prinz says that they have now entered Phase II of the project where they are now focusing on designing the complex.

Prinz said they took a lot of feedback from the public during Phase I about what should be included. They’re hoping to build a sports and event center that can be used for games, military balls, concerts and other things the community needs.

“That was the number one priority that was identified by both the public and the stakeholders having a large indoor space, to hold community events and concerts and various things. So we’re we’re moving forward with a lot of the high demand or highly desired features that that folks come in at on with that public involvement process,” said Prinz.

They hope to start construction some time next year.
