As of Tuesday afternoon, more than a week after the storm made landfall in the state, more than 100,000 electricity customers still didn’t have power — the vast majority of them in the Houston metropolitan area. Now intense heat and humidity have blanketed the region, leaving many vulnerable residents without the cooling they need to endure the hot, muggy weather with the heat index topping 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

Five people were busted for allegedly stealing a generator used to power a railroad safety crossing in northeast Houston.The Houston Police Department said the incident happened early on Sunday at a crossing on Hirsch near Tidwell.HPD released photos of the arrest on X, formerly known as Twitter.Northeast, Allen PD, Texas DPS and UP RR PD have five suspects detained at 9500 Hirsch. Houston police await autopsy results in death of woman found on Tidwell Road
HOUSTON, Texas — Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of a 63-year-old woman found at 8435 Tidwell Road on Monday afternoon. The identity and cause of death of the woman are pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to a press release from the Houston Police Department (HPD). HPD Homicide Division Detectives L. Patterson and N. Henderson reported that HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a deceased person at the address and found the woman unresponsive and covered by multiple blankets. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced her deceased at the scene.
