City of Jamestown Reminds Residents: Fireworks Are Illegal in New York State
(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, NY – July 2, 2024 – As the Fourth of July approaches, the City of Jamestown reminds all residents that fireworks are illegal in New York State. The City urges everyone to celebrate safely and legally by attending fireworks shows at locations with proper approval for launching fireworks.

The United Ways of Chautauqua County are currently seeking nominations for the 2024 Joseph H. Mason Award. The award recognizes the community service of a local union member. Now in its 43rd year, the Joseph H. Mason Award and “Salute to Labor” recognition dinner honor the memory of Mr. Mason and all that he did for our community. Local Vietnam Veterans Honored at 50th Anniversary Pinning Ceremony

Jamestown YMCA Now Offering Summer Feeding Program in Greater Jamestown Area
Food will be available at the various sites across Jamestown and surrounding communities Mondays through Fridays as of Monday, July 1. Parents/Guardians and/or children can arrive to pick up a fully prepared, balanced meal. Food sites are available thanks to the YMCA’s partnership with the City of Jamestown, Frewsburg Parks and Recreation, Jamestown Public Schools, Prendergast Library, Falconer Central School and Hazeltine Library.
Evergreen Health Relocates Free Narcan Vending Machine in Dunkirk
Evergreen Health recently relocated its free Narcan vending machine in Dunkirk. The machine that was installed earlier this year at Dunkirk Express on East 5th Street in the city has been moved to Safe Point Lighthouse at 303 Main Street. Evergreen Health has an additional Narcan vending machine at its location at 320 Prather Avenue in Jamestown.
New Exhibit Coming to the Cultural Center
The Onöhsagwë: de’ Cultural Center will examine the life of Seneca war chief Cornplanter and provide insight into life on the Cornplanter Grant in a new exhibit scheduled to open August 3, 2024. The major highlight of the exhibition will be the display of the public original Cornplanter monument.
Grant Funds Available for Homeowners in Villages of Sherman and Westfield
The villages of Sherman and Westfield have grant funds available to help low- and moderate-income homeowners make necessary home repairs. Both villages were awarded $493,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds through the New York State Office of Community Renewal to assist a total of 14 homeowners -- seven for both villages.

Jamestown Tarp Skunks Host Community Buyout Night, Honoring First Responders
(WNY News Now) – JAMESTOWN, NY – Live CHQ, Chautauqua County’s talent attraction and retention initiative, will be presenting a “Community Buyout Night” for the Jamestown Tarp Skunks’ July 11, 2024 home game against the Geneva Red Wings, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All tickets for that night’s game will be free to the public courtesy of Live CHQ and its two affiliate agencies, the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency (CCIDA) and the Chautauqua County Partnership for Economic Growth (CCPEG). The theme for this special night is “A Salute to Chautauqua County’s First Responders,” honoring past and present members of the county’s EMS, Fire, and Police agencies.
