Janesville man charged with breaking and entering into ex-girlfriend's home

A Janesville man could face up to 40 years in prison after an alleged incident in which police say he broke down the back door of his ex-girlfriend’s house, threw a piece of the door at her and stole several personal items.

William Joseph Kuchera, 47, has been charged with felony counts of burglary/1st degree assault and 1st degree burglary as well as misdemeanor counts of domestic assault and 4th degree intentional damage to property following the alleged incident on June 30.

According to the police report, the incident ensued after the alleged victim told Kuchera that she would be breaking up with him in the morning. She left his Janesville residence and returned to her home in Waseca shortly before noon.

Around 3 p.m., Waseca police were dispatched to the alleged victim’s home after receiving a phone call from her, stating that Kuchera had broken into her house and was throwing things at her. By the time police arrived, Kuchera had left the area.

The alleged victim told police that she was in the bathroom when she heard a loud noise coming from the porch area. Upon exiting the bathroom, she saw Kuchera breaking through the back door into her kitchen area.

According to the alleged victim, Kuchera threw a piece of the door at her, then came into the kitchen area and took several personal items, including Gatorade and shampoo and conditioner. The alleged victim then told Kuchera to leave and that she would be calling the police.

The alleged victim told police that she was scared of Kuchera and did not know if he would hurt her. She claimed that throughout an on and off two and a half year relationship, Kuchera had consistently been abusive and threatening.

Conditions for bail were set at a July 1st hearing. In order to be granted even conditional release, Kuchera will need to post a $10,000 bond and comply with a domestic order of no contact and other strict restrictions.
