Janesville's offense slumbered through much of the first day of an American Legion baseball tournament Friday in Plover, and Post 205 lost its first two games of the event.

Carter Berg of Chippewa Falls beat Janesville in the teams' first game with six innings of one-hit ball in which he struck out seven Janesville hitters and walked two. Berg's team beat Janesville 5-0.

Chippewa Falls grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first with Carter Stelter's two-run base hit off Janesville starter Sam Hoium. The Janesville Parker player settled in after that, going five innings without allowing anymore runs. Hoium also had Janesville's only hit in the game, a two-out single in the fifth.

The deficit grew for Janesville in the sixth inning after Chippewa Falls logged three consecutive singles off Janesville reliever Tyler Hegle, the third of which made it 3-0. A sacrifice fly and a run scoring on a wild pitch later in the inning closed the scoring.

Janesville took on Sheboygan in its second game of Friday and didn't score until the last inning of a 6-3 loss. The result dropped Post 205's record to 7-12-1 on the summer.

The local team fell behind after a four-run inning for Sheboygan in which it recorded just one hit. An error, a hit-by-pitch and a walk loaded the bases against Blake Bowditch, and a second error in the frame allowed the first run to score.

Another crossed home on a wild pitch, and an RBI groundout made it 3-0 with two outs and a runner at third. Jackson Neese came up with the inning's only hit, an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Sheboygan's fifth run also scored on an error that would've been the final out of the fifth inning. Of the six runs charged to Bowditch in his complete-game effort on the mound, five were unearned.

The lead grew to 6-0 in the top of the seventh with Neese's second RBI hit of the game.

Post 205 finally mounted a run-scoring rally in the bottom of the second that started with Donovan Hatch's one-out single through the left side of the infield.

Hegle hit next and doubled to left, a hit that brought Hatch all the way home from first.

Landon Keller and Brett Appel both had two-out RBI hits later in the inning to give each batter two hits in the game. Christian Hobon dug in next for Janesville and represented the tying run, but he hit a grounder to short and Sheboygan converted the final out of the game at second base.

Play in the Plover tournament continues for Janesville on Saturday with a game against Manitowoc at 5:30 p.m. and another against the tournament host at 8 p.m.
