    1 dead after head-on crash in Jasper County

    JASPER COUNTY, Iowa — One person is dead after a head-on crash in Jasper County Wednesday morning.

    At about 11:29 a.m. the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a head-on crash in the 5100 block of County Highway S 74 S, which is south of Newton.

    According to the sheriff’s office, 41-year-old Michael Croy was traveling northbound on S 74 S when he, for an unknown reason, crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a vehicle that was traveling southbound. Due to the impact, the southbound vehicle came to rest in the west ditch.

    Croy died from his injuries at the scene of the crash. The driver of the southbound vehicle, 62-year-old Karl Peters, suffered minor injuries.

    An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
