High maintenance, energy costs of buildings highlighted
Nearly 70,000 square feet of county-owned building space is “problematic” according to the director of Jefferson County Fleet & Facilities Management. In a presentation to the county commission at its June 27 meeting, the director, Laura Kuhn, detailed a long list of often expensive county building problems, including maintenance backlogs, energy inefficiencies, high utility costs, space shortages, handicap accessibility issues, safety concerns and “confusion” for county residents.

Martinsburg gains mercy rule win over Jefferson County in 9-11 district tournament
MARTINSBURG — Martinsburg Little League’s 9-11 baseball team downed Jefferson County, 13-3, at Oatsdale Park Friday night. Martinsburg’s win advanced them to the district championship, which was supposed to be Saturday, but was moved to Sunday due to weather. Results of the district championship were not available at press time.
