This year’s RAGBRAI route may not be the Walk of Fame — but it will take on some Hollywood flavor in an Iowa sort of way. Cyclists will roll through Greenfield and Winterset, both having been the settings of major Hollywood movies. And if those cinematic ties weren’t enough, the route also goes through the birth town of one of Tinseltown’s biggest stars of all.
RAGBRAI to Make Way Through Greenfield Tomorrow
The biggest bicycling event for the state of Iowa is underway. Tomorrow, the bicyclists taking part in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) will make their way through Adair County, with Greenfield being the midday stop. The route through Greenfield has changed since the city was originally chosen as a stop, allowing bicyclists to tour through areas that were in the path of the May 21st tornado that devastated a mile long stretch of the town in a minute.
Centennial Park's main playground gets new equipment and more shade in Waukee this fall
Waukee plans to upgrade the main playground at one of its larger parks this fall to appeal to more children and provide additional shade. POSTVILLE, Iowa — An Oelwein couple is hospitalized after the three-wheeled motorbike they were riding was hit head-on by a car. It happened around 4:15pm Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Highways 18 and 52 west of Postville. The Alllamakee County Sheriff's Office says 31-yaer-old Mitchell Meyer of Dorchester swerved out of his lane to avoid a vehicle that had stopped to make a turn. WINTERSET, Iowa — It's been one year since former Winterset Chief of Police Ken Burke passed away unexpectedly after serving his community for 20 years. Burke was well-known in the city of over 5,000 residents, and was referred to as the "epitome of police officers" by people who knew him best.
