Drought conditions worsen across Texas | Drier, hotter pattern to last through August
AUSTIN, Texas — Thursday means another drought monitor has been released for Texas, and there are some important changes compared to last week. Areas not in a drought dropped by roughly 10% from last week, which is a staggering number considering how much fluctuation there has been throughout the year.

Lone Star city council hires new wastewater operator
, The evening of Thursday, August 8th, the city council for Lone Star convened for a special agenda at the Lone Star Fire Department and voted on a new water and wastewater operator. The beginning of the meeting, the council spent much of the time in executive session. After their private session ended, they voted on the motion to hire Ken Harris as the new water and wastewater operator. The council also held a budget meeting after the special agenda session. They discussed many topics, but made no motions or votes. Among the topics discussed were water, sewage, utilities, wages for city employees, and funding for parks and future city events.
Nationally renown muralist honors Hughes Springs fallen veteran
, A picture is worth a thousand words. Now, a nationally-recognized muralist, Darlene Taylor, is sending a message of honor with a thousand brush strokes by painting a giant mural of fallen Hughes Springs veteran, Samuel T. Castle. Taylor is from Texarkana, but she’s been traveling to Hughes Springs every day for over a month. Daingerfield ISD host annual back to school breakfast
Daingerfield ISD welcomed the 2024 - 2025 school year with their annual back to school breakfast. In a Facebook post, they said, “Thank you Texas Heritage for sponsoring our back to school breakfast for 30+ years! Mr. Patrick Johnson gave words of encouragement for the new year and East Texas Professional Credit Union provided lunch! Greatness all around! We are ready!”
Buddy organization of Northeast Texas hosts successful school supply drive
, On Saturday, August 3rd, the BUDDY Organization of Northeast Texas held their back-toschool supplies drive in Daingerfield. In a Facebook post, they said, “The back to school supply give away was a huge success today. We gave away 170 backpacks filled with various school supplies. And we served 200 hot dogs chips and refreshments. Thanks is large for the monetary donations provided by “Mrs Brenda Moore of Rock Branch” the “Expected Heart Pregnancy Center of Mt.
