MCFARLAND — Jefferson earned an 8-2 win over McFarland, then fell 4-3 in a Home Talent League Baseball twin bill played at McFarland High School on Sunday.

The Blue Devils scored three runs apiece in the first and second innings of the first game and that was plenty of run support for Ike Roth, who allowed two unearned runs over five innings with eight strikeouts, two walks in a complete-game seven-inning decision.

Reese Fetherston and Aidan Kammer singled with no outs in the Jefferson first to help load the bases. Thomas Schlesner plated a run with a single to shortstop. Brandon Laesch added a run-scoring sacrifice fly before Kammer came across on a wild pitch.

Haygen Miller drew a one-out walk in the second, moved up on a passed ball, took third on a single by Fetherston before coming around on Isiah Hoffman’s sacrifice fly. Fetherston proceeded to steal second and third on separate plays, scoring on pitcher Noah Punzel’s error.

Kammer, on a 2-0 offering, launched a solo blast to center that made it 6-0.

The finale went to extra innings, where Dadon Gillen singled in the go-ahead run with one out in the eighth. Tyler Damon followed with an RBI single for the Muskies (2-4, 2-3 in division games).

Heath Renz doubled home Fetherston in the Jefferson eighth with two outs. Roder then got Thomas Schlesner to line out to center to end it.

Tyler Schroedl started for Jefferson (5-2, 4-1 in division games), allowing two earned runs on two hits with four strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Renz allowed a run on four hits with five strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings in the loss.

Luis Serrano singled and scored on Renz’ ground out in the first. With two outs in the sixth, Damon lined a single that plated two runs. Jefferson knotted it at 2-2 in the home half of the sixth when Fetherston was hit by a pitch and scored on a wild pitch.

Jefferson faces Footville at Fischer Field next Sunday at 1 p.m.
