JEFFERSON — Ike Roth struck out eight in a five-hitter as the Jefferson Blue Devils beat the Stoughton Merchants 6-1 in Home Talent League baseball at Fischer Field on Sunday.
Roth scattered four singles and a double, allowing an unearned run in the sixth inning while walking three. He threw 109 pitches, 71 for strikes.
The Blue Devils (7-2) scored in the first inning when Heath Renz drew a bases-loaded walk, adding a two-out run in the second when Aidan Kammer singled the other way just inside the third-base line.
Jefferson took advantage of separate errors by Stoughton third baseman Max Kurth to score twice in the fifth and lead 4-0.
Haygen Miller led off the Blue Devils sixth by drawing a four-pitch walk and came around on Kammer’s line shot triple to right field. Roby Schlesner followed with a sacrifice fly for the final margin.
Alex Bailey started for the Merchants (2-6) and took the loss, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits with six walks and four strikeouts across six innings.
Jefferson hosts Albion on Thursday at 1 p.m.
