Summer baseball: Jefferson tops Waterloo 6-1

WATERLOO -- Mason Merz pitched a six-hitter and Gavin Berge drove in a pair of runs as Jefferson's summer baseball team won at Waterloo 6-1 on Monday.

The Eagles seized control with five runs in the fourth inning.

Jefferson loaded the bases with one away before Berge drew a bases-loaded walk. Finn DeBlare and Merz delivered consecutive RBI singles before Berge scored on a passed ball to make it 4-0. With two outs, Tyler Steinke doubled home a run.

Merz allowed an earned run in the sixth inning, striking out three while also walking three.
