A Welsh man was injured Thursday in a motorcycle crash after leading Jennings police on a high-speed chase while fleeing a traffic stop.

The incident began while Jennings police were conducting stationary patrols in a residential area where residents had complained of speeders in the neighborhood, according to the Jennings Police Department.

While working the detail, officers observed a motorcycle with no visible license plate traveling at a high rate of speed on East Division Street.

The motorcyclist refused to stop and continued to travel through residential areas at speeds exceeding over 70 mph and disregarding several stop signs before turning south bound onto La. 26 where he continued to flee, traveling more than 100 mph in the opposition lane of traffic.

The chase ended when the motorcycle collided with another vehicle near the intersection of La. 26 and West South Street.

The motorcyclist, who police have identified as 30-year-old Karl Monceaux II, was injured and transported to an area trauma center where he is recovering from his injuries.

The occupants of the other vehicle also required medical attention.

Police say Monceaux was driving with a suspended driver’s license, had no motorcycle endorsement, no proof of insurance and no registration.

    Charges against Monceaux are pending.

Louisiana State police Troop D assisted Jennings police in the crash investigation.
