LETCHER COUNTY, Ky. (WJHL) — A woman was found dead in Letcher County with injuries that appear to be consistent with an animal attack, Kentucky State Police (KSP) announced Monday.

According to a news release from the KSP , troopers responded to Doty Creek in the Jeremiah area of Letcher County shortly before 1 a.m. on Sunday. State police had received a 911 call saying a woman had been found dead in the area.

When troopers arrived, they found the deceased woman, who was identified as Trina Sandlin, 57, of Jeremiah.

The KSP reported on Monday that a preliminary investigation found Sandlin had left her home earlier in the evening to go to a neighbor’s home, but she never returned.

The release states family members found her “near her home over and embankment and had suffered injuries consistent with an animal attack.”

The coroner’s office pronounced Sandlin dead at the scene. Her body was sent for an autopsy.

As of Monday, the incident remained under investigation.
