    Author’s Note

This article is based on corporate postings and accredited media reports. Linked information within this article is attributed to the following outlets: The-Sun.com, StopandShop.com and ScrapeHero.com.

    Introduction

I write extensively about the Stop & Shop convenience chain. In recent weeks, it was announced 32 company stores across the northeast will be permanently closing before the end of the year due to underperformance.

Among the pending closures are five Connecticut locations.

    Let us explore further.

    Stop & Shop, 2024

According to an August 14th report from The-Sun.com, the closing Connecticut locations are the following:

    • 100 Division St., Ansonia
    • 211 High St., Torrington
    • 1937 West Main St., Stamford
    • 855 Bridgeport Ave., Milford
    • 72 Newtown Road, Danbury

Per an earlier August 2 report from The-Sun.com, the company stated 32 of its stores will close by November 2 in the states of New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut and Rhode Island, but it would continue to invest in building the brand.

As excerpted from that report: However, the retailer announced that it will continue to invest in price and customer experience as part of its growth strategy. According to the announcement, Stop & Shop will continue to have a strong presence across its five-state footprint with more than 350 stores.

For perspective, per ScrapeHero.com’s current company location count: There are 397 Stop and Shop stores in the United States as of July 30, 2024. The state and territory with the most number of Stop and Shop locations in the US is Massachusetts, with 125 stores, which is about 31% of all Stop and Shop stores in the US.

It should be noted the company has not announced plans to close stores other than these 32 locations.

    Conclusion

It is not unusual, of course, for any such company to close locations due to issues related to underperformance.

In the event of pertinent updates to this story, I will share them here on NewsBreak.
