JOHNSON CITY — Early success helped carry the Greeneville Flyboys over the Johnson City Doughboys in a 7-2 win on Wednesday in Johnson City, pushing them further ahead of their Division West rivals with a 15-8 record.

The Flyboys kicked things off with four runs in the opening inning. Leadoff hitter Tyler Inge started the game with a line drive single to center field. Then Brodie Johnston sent a pitch over the fence for a two-run home run, immediately setting the tone for the rest of the game.

A fielding error with runners on second and third resulted in Nick Arias scampering home, increasing the Flyboys lead to 3-1. Brady Francisco drove in the team’s fourth run on a groundout, 4-1.

In the bottom of the first, the Doughboys’ Carson Kerce hit a one-out triple and was brought home on a groundout to make it 4-1.

The game was quiet until the fifth inning, when Greeneville added two more runs. Inge hit an RBI single to center field, followed by a Johnston RBI single to left field increasing the Flyboys’ lead to 6-1.

In the sixth, Johnson City’s Chris McHugh drove a run in on a single to make it 6-2, but the Flyboys held the lead, adding another run in the final inning for good measure. Francisco cracked an RBI double to drive home Ariel Antigua to end the game, 7-2.

Kyle Bade drew the start on the mound for Greeneville, throwing for the first four innings and giving up three hits, one earned run, walking two and striking out seven. Tyler Jackson (1-0) earned the win, pitching two clean innings with two strikeouts.

Jamie Robertson pitched two innings, allowing one hit, one earned run and walking one. Brady Frederick pitching the ninth inning, giving up one hit and striking out two.

At the plate, Inge and Johnston led the team. Inge was 3-for-4 and Johnston was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Francisco had one hit and two RBI and Drew Culbertson, BJ Peart and Arias had one hit each.
