London, England (July 5, 2024) – After being forced to wait two extra days to hit the grass at the All England Club finally, Sander Gille and doubles partner Joran Vliegan made quick work of their opening-round opponent on Friday at Wimbledon.

An opponent change didn’t faze Gille/Vliegan as the Belgian duo cruised to a straight-set victory in round one by defeating Facundo Diaz Acosta/Alexandre Muller, 6-2, 6-3, on Court 6. Gille/Vliegan were originally scheduled to face the Argentinean duo of Francisco Cerundolo and Tomas Martin Etcheverry

The Belgian duo, who won 58 of the 91 points on Friday, registered nine aces and won 90 percent of their first serves (26/29).

Gille/Vliegan will now take on Lloyd Glasspool (Great Britain)/Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands) in round two. The match is scheduled for Saturday on Court 15 at 9:30 a.m. on ESPN+.

Gille, the 2010 ASUN Player of the Year, helped guide ETSU to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances from 2009-12. The Buccaneer alum was a three-time first-team all-ASUN selection. To go with his Player of the Year honor in 2010, Gille was also named ASUN Tournament MVP. Gille finished his collegiate career with 72 wins in the Blue & Gold.
