JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) agents are investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in injuries Wednesday night in Johnson City.

According to the TBI, it happened near the intersection of Lone Oak Road and Cherokee Road.

The TBI reports that shortly after 8:30 p.m. officers with the Johnson City Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers saw a Jeep being driven by a man who was known to have active arrest warrants.

After authorities attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver of the Jeep allegedly drove away “erratically” and began a pursuit, the TBI stated in a news release.

According to the TBI, troopers attempted to force the Jeep to stop at the intersection of Cherokee Road and Lone Oak Road.

”As a Johnson City officer approached the Jeep, the situation escalated,” the TBI stated.

The TBI reports that for reasons that are still under investigation, the officer fired shots and struck the driver.

A passenger in the Jeep was also injured, the release states.

Both the driver and the passenger were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The incident was captured on video, which shows a Jeep ramming patrol vehicles before state troopers ram the suspect vehicle. Police then approach the vehicle and apparent gunshots can be heard.

The TBI stated no officers were injured during the incident.

The results of the investigation will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office when concluded.
