Preparation urged as Hurricane Beryl remnants arrive
Officials are urging preparation as the remnants of Hurricane Beryl bring heavy rain and severe storms to the Midwest today. Remnants could bring heavy rains, high winds, severe storms and flooding stretching from south-central Illinois into parts of lower Michigan. The storm arrived in Central Indiana on Tuesday morning and is expected to bring impacts over the next few days.
Court docs: Caretaker assaulted autistic man with flashlight
An Indianapolis man allegedly assaulted an autistic man he was caring for with a flashlight, Johnson County prosecutors say. William F. Brooks Jr., 85, is charged with battery resulting in bodily injury to a disabled person, a Level 5 felony. He was arrested and booked into the Johnson County jail on Saturday.

INDOT to hold hearing on southside US 31 sidewalk project
The Indiana Department of Transportation will hold a public information meeting for a southside U.S. 31 sidewalk project Tuesday. The proposed project will install Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant sidewalks and curb ramps on both sides of U.S. 31 from County Line Road to Thompson Road in Johnson and Marion Counties. The project will also include minor drainage improvements and a signal improvement at U.S. 31 and Shelby Street.

Road work to reduce I-65 to one lane between Franklin and Edinburgh
Night-time lane closures are planned on Interstate 65 between Edinburgh and Franklin starting Monday. Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E&B Paving, Inc. plans to reduce both the north and southbound lanes of I-65 to one lane between Exit 90 at Franklin and Exit 80 at Edinburgh on or after Monday for night-time milling and paving operations in Johnson and Shelby Counties. The work will be split up between the southbound and northbound lanes, according to INDOT.

Longtime Johnson County resident, Pamela (Hite) Mann, gained eternal rest after a short and courageous battle with leukemia on Monday, July 1st, 2024, at 6:15 am. She passed with her loved ones by her side just fifteen days after celebrating her 82nd birthday. Pam, more affectionately known as “Mom and Gams”, was one of four children born to the late Eugene W. and Patty Ileen (Jewell) Hite. Her life began on Tuesday, June 16th, 1942.
