JOHNSTON − A Greenville woman died after the car she was driving hit a utility pole late Wednesday night in Johnston, according to Johnston Police Chief Mark A. Vieira.

She was identified as Michaela Greatorex, 36.

The crash happened around midnight in the area of 2750 Hartford Ave.

Greatorex had been driving a Nissan Rogue east on Hartford Avenue through heavy rain when she hit the pole, according to Vieira.

Greatorex, who was alone in the car, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Vieira said.

The department’s accident reconstruction unit responded, and the crash remains under investigation, Vieira said.
