    Oakland A’s draft Bishop McCort graduate Aidan Layton

    JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WTAJ) – Bishop McCort graduate Aidan Layton has been drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 17th round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

    Layton, 2020 graduate for the Crushers, played collegiate baseball at Division II Seton Hill, where he stood out to scouts. This past season, Layton had a 3.15 earned runs average and struck out 90 batters through 88.2 innings pitched.

    His best game for the Griffins this year came against Millersville in the Atlantic Regional, where he pitched eight scoreless innings with 14 strikeouts. Coming out of high school, he was ranked among the top 30 right-handed pitchers in Pennsylvania, according to Perfect Game .

    Layton will begin his road to the MLB at the Oakland Athletics’ rookie league affiliate in Arizona.
